Beschreibung
This exclusive architectural "one-of-a-kind" is located on Wartenbergstrasse and thus in a quiet residential street in the preferred Gellert district. The villa was designed by the Basel architectural firm Suter & Burckhardt in 1901 and completed in 1903. It can be assumed that this impressive building was one of the first projects of the two childhood friends, Rudolf Suter (1871-1932) and Otto Burckhardt (1872-1952), as they founded their joint architectural office during the year of the commission. It was not until much later that this former combination resulted in the companies Suter & Suter (1945) and Burckhardt Architekten (1951).
The spacious building impresses with its unique front façade. On closer inspection, one realizes that this uniqueness and the playfulness of the façade image is probably mainly due to the seemingly arbitrarily arranged windows and their different formats. The floral locksmith work also supports this impression. When looking at the front façade, you don't immediately notice how voluminous the building actually is.
When you enter the house, you are greeted by a stately entrance hall. It is an impressive large, high room that brings out the charm of Art Nouveau in its full glory. An elaborate ceramic wall fleece, also created as a unique piece, is a magnificent reproduction of the painting "Water Snakes II" by Gustav Klimt. It is an effective part of this central house area. The floor is clad in polished marble.
The house has 13 living rooms and rooms, some of which are very spacious, several ancillary rooms and additional usable space. The salon occupies an area of over 42 m2. Even a grand piano comes to light in it contemplatively. The room height is up to 3.20 meters. Artful decorations with floral motifs and curved lines give this room, especially the seating area, an enchanting atmosphere. It is the ideal place for private music evenings, social events or just to relax in an extremely pleasant environment. A large window front brings a lot of light into the living room and at the same time opens up a beautiful view of the park-like green area, which can also be entered through direct access from here.
The staircase, which is open to the inside and runs over several mezzanine and main floors - a large skylight fills it with plenty of daylight - is elegantly accompanied by a wooden staircase finished with pickets.
The studio-like attic is equipped with a large panoramic window, many comfort finishes and another bathroom.
In the comfortably converted basement there is, among other things, today's billiard room, the cozy wine and fondue room as well as a natural wine cellar or the housekeeping. An underground corridor connects the townhouse with the adjacent parking garage, where the two parking spaces belonging to the house are located (exit St. Alban-Ring).
The idyllic garden has the character of a small park. It is a truly magical place in the heart of the Gellert. In 1995, the charming Art Nouveau pavilion was built according to the original plans from 1901. This open, yet weather-protected space is a beautiful place to linger on a warm summer day or evening in complete privacy or in the circle of a small company. This garden also offers wonderful conditions for exhibiting exquisite art objects.
Such an imposing building cannot be adequately described in words. The photos also only convey a visual presentation in partial sections.
