Château d’Hellebecq:
This 19th century residence, more like a farm-castle, was called a “château” by the local people to give it more prestige. However, its fame is due more to its rural activities than to its owners. In 1866, the farm was bought by Erasme-Désiré Bouvez, a farmer and Mayor of Hellebecq.
It

was at this time (Château d’Hellebecq) that the estate became known as Château Bouvez – the name of its occupant. His brother-in-law, General Fernand Hellin, who was seriously wounded during the First World War and decorated for his bravery with the highest military honors, came to live there in 1940 and died there in 1940. He is buried at the foot of the church in Hellebecq. The Château d’Hellebecq also belonged to the Countess de Meeûs d’Argenteuil.

The nearest city is Ath. Ath is located 60 km west of the capital Brussels, 65 km east of Lille, 27 km east of Tournai and 23 km north of Mons. The proximity of the A8 motorway and the national roads and the presence of a railway station with a high traffic volume make it a regional traffic hub.

At the confluence of the two Dendre rivers, Ath, with its rich past and exceptional folklore, is the capital of the green country. It is the city of giants. The Ducasse, which takes place on the fourth Sunday in August, has been recognized since 2005 as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity by UNESCO.
