Chur (Coire in French) is the capital of the canton of Graubünden, the only trilingual Swiss canton (German, Italian, Romansh). The city is located in the valley of the Alpine Rhine. With almost 38,500 inhabitants and an annual growth forecast of around 2 to 4%, this beautiful city surrounded by mountains prides itself on being the oldest in Switzerland. Its history dates back to 13,000 years ago, when Paleolithic hunter-gatherers took shelter in caves. Young, urban, dynamic and touristic, Chur is the city in the Rhine Valley which attracts young start-ups alongside international companies that have been established for longer. They number over 5,500 in all, large and small, and employ around 32,000 people. The motorway and the train connect the city with neighboring municipalities and winter sports resorts. This is how Chur sees the iconic Glacier Express come to a stop, which expresses only the name, but traverses breathtaking landscapes. To see: the old town, one of the best preserved in Switzerland, entirely pedestrianized and recognized as a cultural asset of national importance; the episcopal castle and the cathedral with three naves.
Real estate: living in Chur
Chur, with its beautiful real estate heritage, is a very popular city with tourists. It is the gateway to many spa and vacation resorts located less than an hour away. Above the city, the Brambrüesch, the mountain of Chur is the starting point of many hiking trails that run along the Grisons vineyards. Museums, theaters, concerts, festivals make it a city of culture. With more than 500 stores, shopping is king, especially in the alleys of the old town where a colorful market is held on Saturday mornings in summer. Those who live there year round and do not shop in the Old Town can visit the malls on the outskirts. Nightlife is lively in the bars and restaurants. This modern city, well anchored in its century, however retains its traditions. The one for example in May / June called the Balade à Maiensäss during which the schoolchildren of Chur go with a fanfare to spend a day in nature with their teachers. More recently, the Chur festival marks the end of summer throughout the old town. We eat, drink and dance there. Chur is undoubtedly an attractive city, especially since the selling prices of real estate remain within the Swiss average.
