The sweetness of life between the cinema and camellias

Locarno (inhabitants being called the Lucarnois) is located in the Italian speaking canton of Ticino. The agglomeration of Locarno-Ascona counts over 60 000 inhabitants. The city lies in a beautiful setting between the waters of the lake Maggiore and the surrounding mountains. Its Mediterranean climate (despite cold winters), perfectly preserved architectural heritage with pretty pastel houses and arcaded squares such as Piazza Grande of truly Italian elegance make it a perfect destination for the affluent tourists. Apart from the striking beauty of the city with yearly average of 2300 hours of sunshine, it is the international film festival, in August, which has built its reputation as one of the most prestigious festivals in the whole world. Among the known figures of the city you will find the painter Paul Klee and the novelist Patricia Highsmith. The closest international airport of Lugano is located only 21 km away. Locarno also has its own small airport. Two railway lines allow you to travel comfortably to Zurich, Milan and Lausanne. Multiple bus lines connect Locarno with the neighboring municipalities. The must-see attractions include: the fort of Castello Visconteo, the church San Francesco and the sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso easy to reach by a cable car offering magnificent views on the lake.

Real estate: living in Locarno

Tranquility, luxury and sensuality are the words that come to mind when describing the life in Locarno. It is not without a reason that many prominent figures decide to retire here. The most remarkable meeting point is of course Piazza Grande. This is the very heart of the famous Locarno film festival as well as a place of many concerts. The city can boast of its own « Walk of fame » where hundreds of rock and pop stars have left their handprint. Each Thursday, a market of local products is being organised on Piazza Grande including the local handicraft as well as a chance to taste the best of Ticino with delightful food: cheese, eggs, fruits and vegetables. The camellia flower is a symbol of the city. In fact, it hosts the annual Camellia Flower Festival which takes place already for 23 years being the most significant event of its kind in Europe. To get a sense of just how much flowers are appreciated in this city, you should take a walk in the magnificent camellia park on the shores of the lake.  Locarno has a vast real estate offer allowing you to find your home both on the shores of the lake or close to the mountains.
