Located in the German-speaking canton of Basel-Country, the town of Reinach has approximately 19,200 inhabitants. What was only a small farming village at the start of the 20th century is now part of the metropolitan area of Basel (the metropolis is 7 km away). But the "village" atmosphere has remained, even if Reinach has developed a lot and benefits from all possible cultural and sporting facilities, a booming real estate sector, shops and businesses attracted by the economic center that is the canton of Basel-City. The Reinach industrial zone is home to many companies, SMEs and international companies such as Endress + Hauser whose head office is located in the municipality. Around 12,000 people work in Reinach and live here or in the surrounding villages. As everywhere in Switzerland, the public transport network is developed and efficient and allows rapid access to Basel. To see: the Heimatmuseum to discover the life of the people of Reinach in the past. At the top of Bruderholz, a chain of hills that Reinach shares with Basel, a monument commemorates the Battle of Bruderholz in 1499.
Life in Reinach is closely linked to that of Basel with its leisure activities, its businesses and its university. But its slogan "The city in front of the city", strives to make a difference with its very large and dynamic neighbor. In 2019, Reinach obtained the Energy city gold label, which rewards municipalities leading a sustainable energy policy: renewable energies, management of mobility that respects the environment and health, monitoring the energy consumption of public buildings, campaigns of information. It is also certified as a "Child Friendly Community" by Unicef, which guarantees a good quality of life for families. The two half-cantons inhabitants’ favorite hikes lead them to the Jura region wooded hills, the highlands with their magnificent panoramas and to the Laufon valley, south of Basel to discover small villages and country inns. Living in Reinach is a bit like living in the city, but also a bit in the countryside and far enough from the hustle and bustle of the city. Basel is in the top three of the 10 cities in the world offering the best quality of life. Real estate prices are therefore in the upper Swiss average. This is somewhat less the case in Reinach, where real estate prices are more affordable.
