With almost 21,000 inhabitants, Wettingen is the largest municipality in the German-speaking administrative district of Aargau. It is located on the right bank of the Limmat at the foot of the Lägern, one of Jura’s the last foothills. From the Burghorn, Wettingen's highest point at an altitude of 859 meters, the panorama is unique towards Baden-Württemberg in the north and towards the Alps. The city is part of the greater agglomeration of Zurich, from which it is 22 km away. Wettingen has an excellent public transport network to its large neighbor and to the surrounding municipalities. The motorway provides quick connections to Bern. Around 8,000 people work in commercial and industrial SMEs in Wettingen. Sightseeing: the former Cistercian monastery classified as cultural property of national importance which now houses a school and the Wettingen-Neuenhof covered bridge dating from 1818. The Schloss Schartenfels house is also worth a visit. Built in 1881 it was first an inn during the summer. Today it is a top-of-the-rage restaurant in a beautiful setting, but it has kept its vocation as an inn and welcomes hungry hikers to the garden.
The atmosphere is peaceful in this small town a few kilometers from Zurich. The preserved quality of life, between the hills that surround it and the river that crosses it, seduces and attracts families. In 2017, the city was certified "city of children" by Unicef and offers dozens of activities. The Tägerhard sports and leisure center has an ice rink, an outdoor and an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, mini golf etc. The Gluri Suter Huus gallery offers continuous contemporary art exhibitions in a beautiful half-timbered building. The weekly market on Rathausplatz displays its vegetables and fruits (including grapes from the neighboring vineyard in season), mushrooms and honey, wood-baked bread, cheeses and flowers. The art of gentle living in Wettingen is also that of living to music. In fact, in this small town of 21,000 inhabitants, there is a chamber orchestra, the monastery choir, the Schola Cantorum Wettingensis choir, the choir of amateur singers Vocalino Wettingen, the Wettinger Singkreis choir and as many concerts given for the New Year, the arrival of spring, summer or fall. In this pretty town in the Greater Zurich area, demand for real estate is high and supply scarce. Real estate prices there are barely lower than those in Zurich.
