The small town facing Lucerne

Stans is the capital of the half-canton of Nidwald, one of the least populated in Switzerland. This small town is located in the Aa Valley and faces Lucerne, on the other side of Lake Lucerne. Its 8,400 inhabitants speak German. By the Zentralbahn, Lucerne is about twenty minutes away. The city has 1050 companies of varying sizes. The largest is Pilatus Aircraft, world leader in turbo-propelled single-engine aircraft, has its head office and main factory in Stans. The town is located at the foot of the Stanserhorn (1,898 meters), the summit of which is accessible by the CabriO, the world's first cable car with an open upper bridge. An experience for everyone who comes to visit Lucerne or stays on the shores of Lake Lucerne. What to see: the village square, rebuilt after a fire in the 18th century and which locals say is the most beautiful square in Switzerland; Winkelried Castle; Rosenburg Castle.

Nestled between small mountains and a short distance from the great Lake Lucerne, Stans offers its inhabitants a peaceful life in a rural landscape where building construction is under control and none of the services of a big city are lacking. Shops in the heart of the village and shopping centers on the outskirts, many clubs and sports facilities that give everyone the opportunity to practice the activity that interests them. If something is missing Lucerne, with its 82,000 inhabitants and numerous recreational opportunities, is 14 km away via the A2. Like a majority of municipalities in Switzerland, Stans is sensitive to the principles of sustainable development and is committed to using energy in an ecological, efficient and economical manner. Since there is no town, big or small, without its market, Stans's market takes place on Saturday mornings in the village square from spring to autumn. Here you will find Nidwaldner Alpkäser, a cheese that producers have ripened in their cellars during the winter, and other regional products. In the restaurants around the square you will taste the specialty of the canton of Nidwalden, Alpmakronnen, a dish consisting of macaroni, grilled onions and served with applesauce. Stans is at the center of the canton's cultural life. All year round, events take place at the Chäslager cultural center, the Theater an der Mürg, the cultural center, the Nidwaldner museum or in the Literary Center of Central Switzerland. Real estate prices are high in this pretty little town, but a little lower than in Lucerne.
